COVID-19 UPDATE - We have counselors ready to meet with you by phone or online as you are staying home. For an intake appointment, please call the receptionist, (480) 829-0130 and leave a message indicating whether you can meet mornings, afternoons, evenings, or Saturdays and which digital platform you prefer. Or we are still doing one-on-one appointments in the office. We are here to serve you!
People Help is a lay counseling center within Grace Community Church that exists to help people work through obstacles that hinder spiritual, mental, and/or emotional development, in an environment where the counselee can feel safe and secure. People Help is not only for members of Grace, but for people in our community as well (only adults 18+). At People Help, we offer an integrative approach to counseling (Biblical and cognitive) at no cost to the counselee. (Please note that we are equipped to counsel adult individuals and couples only. Referrals will be offered for children and family counseling.)
For testimonies from past clients, see Facebook @gccpeoplehelp.
People Help is not considered a crisis center, but rather, a short-term Christian lay counseling facility. If this is an emergency, please dial 911, MMIC Crisis Line at (800) 564-5465, or Empact at (480) 784-1500.
For an intake appointment, please call the receptionist, (480) 829-0130 and leave a message indicating whether you can meet mornings, afternoons, evenings or Saturdays. She will return the call to set up the appointment. After completing the intake information and appropriate forms, you will have up to a 1-hour appointment with an intake counselor.
During this appointment a determination will be made as to how to best help you in one of the following ways: Lay counselor, professional volunteer or outside professional counselor (fee required).
If the intake counselor makes the determination People Help could be of service, you will be offered no-fee, short-term, Christian counseling for 10 weekly sessions. You will be assigned to one of our lay counselors. However, there may be some cases where the intake counselor will make the determination we are unable to offer help at a level which would be beneficial to the counselee (i.e., substance abuse, psychosis, conditions requiring medication, or any issue requiring longer-term counseling). In that event, a referral will be offered for outside professional help (fee required).
Please open, print, complete, and sign the appropriate forms prior to your intake appointment.
Since intake appointments are in high demand, please help us serve our community better by keeping your scheduled intake appointment. If you are unable to do so, please call the church receptionist at 480-894-2201 as soon as possible to cancel. We also ask you to provide at least 24 hours notice. We will make every attempt to reschedule within 1 week after a missed appointment, providing 24 hours notice was given. The counseling receptionist will call you Monday or Thursday morning to set a new appointment.
Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 8:00pm (last appointment begins at 7 pm). Limited number of Friday and Saturday appointments.
Note: There is no childcare available for Counseling Center appointments.
We are located just west of the Connection Center. Park on the north.
Everyone has problems. Sometimes all that is needed is one session to talk over a difficult situation with a listening ear. We are now offering "Listening Ear" where a trained lay counselor will meet with you for one hour. No need to fill out application paperwork or have an intake assessment. Please call the receptionist at 480-829-0130 to set up an appointment directly with the counselor. Since scheduling of an appointment involves the reservation of time specifically for you, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for rescheduling or canceling an appointment. Not providing 24 hours notice would constitute a “no-show.” A no-show will not be rescheduled. Additionally, there is no child or pet care available during your scheduled appointment times. If your counselor determines that your situation needs more time, he or she will recommend you complete the process to have ten sessions through People Help.
If you are interested in getting married at Grace, you must complete premarital counseling. We believe premarital counseling is important for a number of reasons:
1 Marriage is hard. Most marriages end in divorce.
2 The stakes are high. Bad marriages hurt families, hurt children, and don’t faithfully reflect the love between Christ and the Church.
3 We are not called to “figure it out for ourselves”. Rather, we are called to learn from the wise men and women who have gone before us.
Our Counselor Couples have been trained and are experienced in leading several couples through scripture and prayer as the big day approaches. We invite you to be blessed by this rich experience and have what many married couples have deemed “priceless”. Your couple will arrange meetings amenable for all your schedules. There is an $80 fee to cover materials used.
You may still participate in premarital counseling even if your wedding is not on Grace's campus.
