Event Recap: Easter Prayer Walk

Posted on

This morning we gathered at 8am for our prayer walk! We passed out over 2,500 invitations to our Easter and Good Friday services to all of the houses that surround our church and prayed through the Lord’s Prayer specifically focussing on the phrase “Thy Kingdom Come”. We prayed that His Kingdom would come here in Tempe: both that the city as a whole would experience the goodness of living under the reign of our Good King and that the individuals within the city would come to to faith in Jesus and thus encounter him as their Savior and Lord. Our group had a great time walking the city together!

Here is the Prayer Guide we used while walking that is based on the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6.

1. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

God is “Our Father” – we are the family of God. Pray for our church – that we would be a people united in Christ in every way.

-Thank God for being our Father and that we have access to him through prayer at all times.

- Jesus teaches us to pray to God as our Father – Father is a relational and intimate term. Pray for the person you are walking with and that they would know God more closely and experience his presence more powerfully.

- God’s name is “hallowed” meaning that he is honored as holy. “The LORD of hosts is exalted in justice, and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness” (Isaiah 5:16). Pray that we would be holy as he is holy: devoted to justice and righteousness.

- Pray for the houses you are walking past: that they would know God as Father, and not only as judge/Lord.

2. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

- “Your kingdom come” – it is His kingdom – not ours! Pray that people everywhere would give up their illusions of control and trust in the good King.

- Pray for the Kingdom of God to grow in power and influence here in our city.

- Pray for the lost, that the kingdom (through the Holy Spirit) would come into their hearts and lead them to conversion.

- “Your will be done” – pray for peace in our hearts, pray that we would trust that His will is being done, pray that we would have the maturity to know when our will is different that His will.

3. Give us this day our daily bread,

- Pray that our church’s needs would be met.

- Pray that we would be the hands and feet of God in which He will meet the needs of those in our city.

- Pray for those who are unemployed or underemployed.

- Pray that all would come to know the Bread of Life: Jesus our King.

4. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

- “as we forgive” – pray that we would be a community of grace in which forgiveness is evident – that we would welcome every prodigal without reserve.

- confess your sin to God – that which you have done and that which you have left undone; ask for his forgiveness.

Thank God for your forgiveness.

- Pray that the lost would come to have their sins forgiven by Jesus through faith in Him.

5. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

- Pray that we as a community would be Holy – that our guests would see something different in the way that we live.

- Pray that God will continue to deliver us from sin through sanctifying us as a community.

- Pray against the work of Satan and his demons in the lives of those in our city.

“far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray” – 1 Samuel 12:23
